Author Interview – Rachel Amphlett – Before Nightfall

Book Description from Amazon:

“If they move you, they will kill you.”

Kate Foster is quick to forget the advice from a pre-deployment hostage survival course once she’s catapulted into a new job in Eastern Europe, despite the good-looking instructor. But a simple day’s task in Istanbul six months later goes horribly wrong.

Trapped and alone, her only hope of survival is the man who trained her – ex-FBI Hostage Rescue Specialist, Finn Scott.

For Finn, it’s his worst nightmare. Kate was the one person he almost let into his heart. Haunted by memories of a failed hostage rescue, he is thrust into a situation beyond his control. Now, against a sinister adversary whose ambitions will split apart Eastern Europe, Finn must overcome his demons to prevent an international catastrophe, and avoid losing Kate forever.

I would rate this 6 stars if I could.
It's not the type of book I would normally read but I'm so happy I gave this a go.
From page 1 or 2 I was completely sucked into the story. Well written and clever.
There are quite a few unexpected twists throughout the story! I honestly recommend it.

What is your preferred genre? Thrillers and Romantic Suspense

How many books have you written?  If more than one, are any a series…or trilogy?

I’ve written two thrillers in the Dan Taylor series (White Gold and Under Fire), and the standalone suspense novel, Before Nightfall

Was there an Author that inspired your writing?

The first thriller I remember reading was Jack Higgins’ The Eagle Has Landed but I’m also inspired by Lee Child, Michael Crichton, Michael Connelly, Helene Young, Linda Howard – basically everything I read in my genre!

Do you plot or write by the seat of your pants?

I do a rough plot for each scene but leave the characters a bit of wiggle room – it’s not too regimented, just enough to keep me on track.

Did you have an editor edit your books?
Absolutely. There’s no way I’d publish them without a professional edit.

Do you prefer ebooks, paperbacks or hardcover?

I like eBooks for discovering new authors, but I do like buying the paperbacks of authors I’ve been reading for years. It’s only a lack of space on the shelves which dictates format these days!

Do you have any advice for other writers starting out?

Don’t give up – and if someone gives you advice, make sure you pay it forward. There are no secrets when it comes to writing.

Your favourite gadget?  My smart phone. Sad but true – especially now that I rely on it so much for marketing and replying to emails!
